We have been informed by the Electoral Services Team Leader at Hambleton DC that they have received a written request for a Parish By-Election in relation to the vacancy for a councillor to replace Ruth Barker on the Parish Council.

As this request was signed by ten residents of Appleton Wiske, a formal election must be held. A request for a full by-election is unprecedented in our Parish to my knowledge ass we have always co-opted people onto the Council when they have shown an interest. We are very disappointed that the election has been requested as all costs for the election must be met by the Parish Council and are likely to be of the order of £1000. It is not clear what led the residents to request an election and whether they were aware of the costs.

The election will be held on Thursday 3rd August. The Parish Council received an expression of interest in February 2017 from Kenton Bazeley, who lives on Front Street, but no-one else has formally contacted the Council to date. Anyone else interested in filling the vacancy should register their interest with Emma Calvert at Hambleton District Council after the publication of the election notice on 29th June. She has nomination packs which must be completed and submitted by 4pm Friday 7th July.

Please watch the notice board and website for further information.
