Appleton Wiske Neighbourhood Planning Group have decided to suspend activities at present. This is because we have four planning applications ongoing in the Village at present:
- 18 dwellings at the Shorthorn site (outline planning application approved for 11 dwellings but we understand that the developer may now propose 18)
- 5 dwellings at Village Farm (approved in outline)
- 3 dwellings for Mr Adams on Hornby Road (outline application submitted)
- 2 dwellings for Mrs Youll on Hornby Road (outline application submitted)
Assuming these all go ahead this would be 28 additional dwellings in the village, whereas the Neighbourhood Planning questionnaires indicated a requirement of about 10 dwellings. A recent review by Hambleton District Council has also indicated that there is no requirement for affordable housing in Appleton Wiske.
As a Neighbourhood Plan must include a spatial element, i.e. housing or other development, and we therefore feel we have no option but to suspend our activities. We will keep an eye on the planning applications in case there is any substantial change.
